What’s the product innovation process like at Pryda?
It starts with identifying a pain point from customers, followed by extensive research on the application without preconceived product ideas. We then develop product features aimed to solve these issues and begin envisioning how the product would look like as well as its value proposition. New product features can enhance safety, reduce working time and minimise labour. Also, innovation can be related to supply chain improvement and product availability throughout channels or even in product packaging or technical data.
Can you provide an example?
We launched the Frame Fix in 2022 in response to the Building Code change in Australia requiring the reinforcement of top plates with service penetrations.
The conventional top plate stiffener has only one piece that has to be fixed into place before the service installation, posting a challenge for trades and carpenters who have services already installed. So, we innovated by introducing a two-piece design that is retrofittable and can be installed after the services are installed through the top plate.
We produced the prototype with desired loading specifications, tested it and collect feedback from customers. After multiple rounds of validation from users, the product was successful launched to the market and it is now available through hardware stores and Pryda fabricators.
